A piece from my Senior Show
For those of you who don’t know, my name is Arryn and I am an alum from Houghton College. After 4 awesome years there, I received my Bachelors of Arts with a degree in the fine arts. Ceramics is my concentration and I love it. It is kind of funny how I got into pottery. As an art major I originally wanted to study painting. I took quite a few different art classes, one of which being ceramics 1. It was a love/hate relationship, but I continued on to ceramics 2 and hated the first half of the class. I couldn’t center my clay on the wheel for anything and…if you can’t center a piece then you really can’t create anything substantial. Then one day in class I was throwing on the wheel and everything just clicked! Now, I am continuing to try and master the skills. I have learned a lot from my professors as well as other potters and it has been wonderful to glean all of their tips and put them into practice. Now as a post-grad student I am anxious to see what is in store for me and explore my options.

Terri Svarczkopf - Arryn – your work is wonderful. I look forward to seeing more of your work. My senior art show boasted only 2 students. So glad to hear that the numbers are growing in the art department at Houghton.
