Or so I thought until I saw that we would be getting some more snow today! It is only the beginning of March and in New England that is definitely still winter! I can’t believe it is already March! So much has happened in this past year that I find myself wondering how it all came together: getting engaged, having my senior show, graduation, working, wedding planning, working, getting married, honeymoon, Christmas, moving, and now back to job hunting. That is another thing that I hope is peeking around the corner. I have definitely enjoyed slower paced life and the freedom of not working, but I am ready to be working and help contribute to my husband’s and my bank account. In this time of looking and waiting I have been able to get to know some new friends, keep up with my workouts, cook for Andrew, and read. (I’m almost done with “Girl with a Pearl Earring”, it is so good.) I am hoping that by the end of this month I will have a clearer direction of what to do next as an artist. I have applied for some exciting things, so I am patiently waiting to hear back.
One of the things that I have been reading lately has been a book on hand-crafted tiles. In addition to my other aspirations with ceramics, I would love to get into tile making. I have big hopes to one day tile my bathroom and kitchen in my own custom tiles. That would be quite the project. Aside from rolling out slabs of clay and hand cutting them, I would love to try ram-pressing tiles. I have never actually done this, but it is a neat procedure and very efficient! My brother, Ian, has already planned for me to design his bathrooms in his house one day…all tiles and wheel-thrown sink basins! For now, I will just have to keep up with sketching and reading. I want to keep my ideas sharp and keep them flowing!
