Everybody loves the start of a weekend!

Andrew getting some coffee

This has been a somewhat long, and busy week and I am glad that Friday is here!  Andrew has been mostly gone this week and comes home today after a staff time with Young Life.  I am definitely ready for him to come back.  It gets lonely here without him and I like sharing my morning coffee with him.  Looking back on this week, a lot has happened…whether that be great or small.  This week the schools had off for spring break so we didn’t have a normal Young Life club on Monday, but had a game night instead.  It was a lot of fun.  Andrew was gone Monday-Tuesday hiking and camping with one of the Young Life guys.  Tuesday morning I had an interview!  (I will know by this coming Tuesday).  Wednesday, Andrew left for his staff time in New York and I got to hang out with one of our Young Life girls.  We had a super yummy lunch that we cooked and then watched Avatar.  (the imagery is incredible – storyline…a bit silly, but all in all I really like it.)  Thursday was our YL Bible study and today I am loving this incredible spring weather.  I am definitely running outside today and am planning what I need to order as far as clay and raw materials go!  Can’t wait!  Andrew gets back this evening and I have officially switched out my winter clothes for my spring/summer clothes.  Anyhow, I have been reading though Oswald Chambers’, My Utmost For His Highest, and have been moved by his writings and challenges in my Christian walk.  Sometimes I get in the habit of making Christ present during the week, but lose sight on the weekends, as if Monday-Friday is the time for devotions and the weekends I have off.  Well, I want to stop that habit and share what he has to say from today’s reading.  Take it with you through your weekend.  I hope you are touched in the same way…

Oswald Chambers –My Utmost for His Highest  Spontaneous Love – ‘Love suffers long and is kind…’ (1 Corinthians 13:4).  ‘Love is not premeditated – it is spontaneous; that is, it burst forth in extraordinary ways.  There is nothing of precise certainty in Paul’s description of love.  We cannot predetermine our thoughts and actions by saying, “Now I will never think any evil thoughts and I will believe everything that Jesus would have me to believe.”  No, the characteristic of love is spontaneity.  We don’t deliberately see the statements of Jesus before us as our standard, but when His Spirit is having His way with us, we live according to His standard without even realizing it.  And when we look back, we are amazed at how unconcerned we have been over our emotions, which is the very evidence that real spontaneous love was there.  The nature of everything involved in the life of God in us is only discerned when we have been through it and it is in our past.                                                                                                                                                                                                  The Fountains from which love flows are in God, not in us.  It is absurd to think that the love of God is naturally in our hearts, as a result of our own nature.  His love is there only because it “has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit…” (Romans 5:5).                                                                                 If we try to prove to God how much we love Him, it is a sure sign that we really don’t love Him.  The evidence of our love for Him is the absolute spontaneity of our love, which flows naturally from His nature within us.  And when we look back, we will not be able to determine why we did certain things, but we can know that we did them according to the spontaneous nature of His love in us.  The life of God exhibits itself in this spontaneous way because the fountains of His love are in the Holy Spirit.'”

His favorite mug.

I hope you all have a fabulous Friday and a wonderful weekend.  Carry Christ with you through your weekend, I am breaking the habit too.  Pray for Andrew to drive safely back, he has a 5 hour drive ahead of him today.
