I have been working on some new ideas, following the same direction as my lanterns and candlesticks: candle pots. Picture an oversized mug without a handle – that is the shape I am going for. They will hold a votive or small pillar candle in them and have carvings cut out near the rim. (These will be carvings similar to what you have seen on my lanterns.) They will, of course, be glazed in my crystalline glazes. I am really excited about these. I want then to all be similar in style, but each one unique. I am, after all, all about the asymmetry! Here is a preview of my sketches and the start of my candle pots. I will have a follow-up post when I am ready to trim and finish the candle pots. (I also have a bisque fire that should be finished and ready to unload this morning. My lanterns are in there!)

I was wondering if the clay could withstand some shapes cut in the sides so the light would shine out the sides as well as the top. I just bought a night light that looks like a snowman with a top hat. The top hat has about 3 stars in it, so the light comes out and makes great wall shadows.
