“Seconds” on Etsy

You may be wondering what “seconds” are, so I will tell you. “Seconds” are anything that is not top quality. Anything that hasn’t quite made it in the end, but is still aesthetically pleasing and functional for use. For example, I have posted a couple of vases for sale on Etsy that will hold water just fine, but the foot of the pot is a bit rough-looking. I have smoothed it down to the touch, but does not have a finished look. That has become a “second” and the price is reduced! So, if you are looking for a deal check out the “seconds” section on my etsy site. Here are the “seconds” that have been posted:

Cobalt crystalline large bud vase - water tight, unfinished foot

Small bubble vase in copper and manganese crystalline

The foot of this vase has been ground down, so it is smooth to the touch but looks unfinished.

This was glazed in a matte crystalline glaze, but also has an unfinished looking foot

The foot on this one is perfect, but on the side there was a waxed spot that didn't allow the glaze to adhere

I always hope there will be no more “seconds”, but ceramics it too unpredictable.  There are so many variables in this medium from start to finish.  I feel like this month has been a month of “loss” in my studio.  I have lost a lot of pieces!  It is so frustrating!  I guess it teaches me perseverance, to just keep working and try to work out the glitches.

Well, your “seconds” look fabulous and I think it’s a great idea to sell them. I love the artistic photos you took of all these pieces, too.

    XO~

What a great idea to sell seconds – most people love bargains. I like the way you photograph the pieces to show them in different positions.
