Spring Cleaning

500 lbs of fresh clay

Spring has finally sprung here in Exeter, NH and the sun has been out a little more consistently.  With this nice weather coming to stay and the trees finally budding and blooming, I decided it was time to do some serious spring cleaning and make the move from the basement back out to the garage.  I spent the last week in the studio throwing, trimming, and finishing pots.  I threw until I was out of clay, so I place my order with Portland Pottery for pick-up on Friday.  I arrived in Portland, ME by 10:00 am and was back in Exeter with a fresh 500 lbs of B-Mix clay by 11:30 am.  I love getting new clay!  So many possibilities!

Before I was able to unload the clay from the van, I first wanted to clean up the studio and move back to the garage for the spring, summer and fall.  There was a lot to do and I wasn’t quite sure where to start.  It ended up being the garage, since the Bartell’s were doing some spring cleaning of their own, I joined them.

Hopefully the Bartell’s aren’t mad at me for adding this picture.  They are working on finishing the room behind the garage:  The Man Cave.  The furniture from there was moved to the garage plus, I sort of spread my clutter further than I should have.  The garage was completely cleared out and swept out.  Things were loaded into the truck for a dump run and some rearranging happened before putting things back in the garage.  The Bartell’s gave me the back portion of their garage to use as my studio.  It is such a great space and I am so grateful for their generosity!  Thank you!  It was fun to give homes to the new space.

Garage cleared out

It was tiring work to clean everything up and then transfer my supplies from the basement back out to the garage.  I still have more work and cleaning to do in the basement before it is back to normal, but it sure feels good to have the space back in the garage and I am sure the Bartell’s are glad to have their basement back too!  I need to finish clearing out the last of my supplies from the basement, sweep and then run the wet vac over the floor.

It was a good thing I hung that tarp! This was where my wheel was in the basement, right under the stairs.

Everything has a place, and I am eager to get in the “new” studio and work today.

Arryn, I know how you feel about getting a new supply of clay. A new supply of cherry, walnut and maple do the same for me. Happy throwing!

Ahhh! I love before and after shots, esp. when cleaning is involved! I wish I was there to help you! That would have been fun! That spurs me on to get to our garage, if only the weather would cooperate a little! Soon… Nicely done, Arryn! Love, Mom V.ReplyCancel
