What I’ve Been Up To…

Well, I realize that I have not blogged in about a week now, but that is not because I have not had work to write about. I have been very busy and actually a bit slammed with work. I am firing the kiln one after another and trying to keep up with getting everything glazed and ready to go for the summer craft fair. Did I mention that I am in my first craft fair? I was waiting to share that until I received the official letter of acceptance. The craft fair is here in downtown Exeter, on July 16th. It looks like it is going to be a busy day, so I am really excited to be a part of this. I am putting in extra hours of work this month and some longer evenings coming as well. I am feeling pressured to get as much work finished as I can now, because next month is super busy and I am traveling quite a bit.

One thing I have been working on, aside from my work for the craft fair, is getting my commissioned orders made and completed. They are atctually all made and in line to be glaze fired and then will be mailed to their respective homes. It feels good to clear out my shelves.

I have been working on several custom mugs for people. Two of these are for friends of ours from college. Nate is a youth pastor and wanted a mug with the UMC cross on it. His wife, Stefanie, wanted a mug too and her request was for it to have “birds on it”. This is what I came up with.

These have been bisque fired and need to be glazed. I am going to wash a layer of red iron oxide over the carvings to bring out the details of the image when they are glazed. Since the shape of the mug was left to me, (they were requested to “look awesome”) I decided to make a “Man and Lady Stein”. I actually really enjoyed carving out the birds for Stef’s mug. Hope you two are liking these so far!

Today, I am unloading the kiln and reloading it for another glaze firing, continuing work on my Christmas line (I started work on that this week), working on gallery pieces, and continuing to throw for the summer craft fair.

I would also like to say that New Hampshire is still having weather in the 50s and it has been quite rainy here. I am ready for the warm sunshine any day! As least everything is super green here – the rain can only help! Have a great Wednesday!

Arryn, these are amazing! You’ve always been a talented sculptor, and now I see how good you are at carving! They do seem like very related skills to me.

I know you’re super busy and I keep you in prayer all the time. I agree with Julie – you’re gifted, loved and missed!!
