A Make-Up Tray

When I come up with new ideas for a pottery item, a lot of them end up coming from something that I want or need.  I keep a small square basket on my dresser that holds my hair ties, bobby pins, make-up etc. and it often tends to get cluttered.  I throw things in the basket when I am cleaning rather than keeping it organized.  My make-up always ended up getting tossed around, and since I use Bare Minerals make-up, the powders would overflow the caps.  If you use this kind of make-up, then you know it helps to keep the little containers flat.  With that being said, I wanted to make a tray that would hold my make-up and brushes.  This is what I cam up with.  It keeps everything clean and organized with easy access.  I have crystalline cups for the brushes too, but it is still in the kiln.  I will have to add that to my piece later.

Green is my favorite color, so I made this one for myself.  I love they way the colors pop against the mahogany dresser!  I have been making several of these and developing some new glazes too.  I am introducing some more colors to my glazing pallet.  Hopefully in the next week or two I will be posting the new glazes.

A flat surface grows the best crystals!  Of course these trays could be used for anything other than make-up, but I wanted it for my make-up and that is where my idea came from.  It would also make a great cheese and cracker plate or use it for a cool candle display!
