Valentine’s day is tomorrow (let this be your reminder in case you forgot) and that means the heart plates are back out! You may remember a similar post I did last year on our heart plates and how much my husband, Andrew, does not like them. (We all know he actually does like them to some degree). I love pulling these plates out every year. I like to keep them out and use them for the whole month of February. I am a dish lover! If I could, I would have a different set of dishes for every month and for each holiday. My mom and my Aunt Michele share this same love for dishes. In fact, it was my Aunt Michele who gave me these heart dishes. Thanks Aunt Michele! We think of you every time we use our plates.
My favorite part about putting these plates out each year is the fact that Andrew never knows they are back out until he opens the kitchen cupboard and sees the bright red stack of plates sitting there on the shelf! It cracks me up how he instantly frowns and tries to hide a smile when he turns to me and says, “not the heart plates”! That exchange in itself has become a tradition. He admits that they are “fun, but they are not my favorite”. Thanks for humoring me, Andrew! If only I had some cool shamrock plates for next month! Maybe I’ll have to make my own.
Any Valentine’s day plans or traditions out there? I grew up always having a great dinner as a family with a beautifully decorated table. Each plate had a valentine on it and a goodie bag of little treats. I have adopted that tradition for our own little family, but Andrew and I tend to have a fun Valentine’s breakfast instead since the day generally falls on something Young Life related. I love decorating the table for it! I want to know what you are doing! So, what are you doing?
