Lunch, Dinner, Dessert

Yesterday I spent a good portion of my workday throwing and trimming plates.  All of these are commissions I have been working on and it feels good to be getting them done.  I recently had a commission for a set of dessert plates.  I have made them before as a gift for someone, but never as a commissioned piece.  They needed to be slightly different from a lunch plate, so I decided to make the dessert plate a bit smaller than the lunch/salad.  Now, some of you would say I am wrong to do that.  You might be saying, “Arryn, the dessert plate should be bigger than the dinner plate”.  To that I would smile and say, “I know what you mean”.  However, for the overall look I am going for in a full set of dishes, they are going to be smaller than the lunch/salad.  Besides, some desserts are small on purpose because they make up for it in richness!  I have decided my dinner plates are to be thrown twelve inches in diameter, lunch/salad plates are nine inches in diameter and dessert plates are seven inches in diameter.  When stacked together as a set, they really look nice!

On Monday I will be trimming these plates and throwing pedestals and collecting dishes!  I desperately need to throw those so I am ready for a glaze firing by the end of next week.  Also, some exciting news!  I officially have my own domain name with this blog.  I am no longer arrynvogan.wordpress.com.  I am now:  arrynvoganpottery.com!  It is exciting to have my own domain:  feels more professional.  I hope you all have a great weekend!

I like this set you’re putting together! The photos are nice, too. I like how clearly you can see the texture and lines on the plate. Well done! 🙂ReplyCancel
