As the Ceramic Alumni Invitational Exhibit at Houghton College wraps up this week, I wanted to give a little recap and share about opening night. It was a fantastic evening as we celebrated and honored our long standing professor, Gary Baxter. The exhibit was curated by Gary and beautifully installed by Alicia Taylor-Austin. The night began with a viewing of the work as the gallery filled with students, faculty, family, guests and of course the alumni. It was a great turn-out. Part way through the evening, Alicia gathered everyone to give a few words about the exhibit, the artists and of course Gary. It was amazing to hear his legacy spilled out and then to hear from him himself as he reflected on his time as a Professor. Next, the artists who were present, were then called forward to be introduced and the floor was opened up for a time of panel discussion and answering questions. It was so fun to share in the evening. Each artist brought incredible work to the exhibit and a rather impressive range of style and technique. There is still time to see the works on display before it all comes down this Friday. If you are in the area, don’t miss it!
